As a company AMP does not offer an advice line to individuals. The position of each person is unique to them and bullying and harassment has such an individual effect that it is only possible to give general guidance.
Your workplace employer has a duty of care to you and all other employees to provide a safe working environment - and that means both physically and psychologically safe.
Your employer probably has a written policy - the problem is that it is not usually effective.
If you are being bullied by a peer, it is worth considering going to HR/Personnel since they may be able to handle this aspect. If you are being bullied by a manager you may expect HR/Personnel to find it more difficult to handle.
Be aware that most people who are bullied by more senior staff or managers leave the business - whether they lodge a complaint or not.
Isolation
On a personal level, those who are bullied soon feel isolated and lonely. They can find it very difficult to tell anyone about it and they tend to hold at a distance those they are closest too. This can lead to relationship problems with their nearest and dearest.
Self-Esteem
Self esteem falls when someone is bullied. The bullied are likely to try harder themselves because they tend to think that they have done something to deserve this treatment.
The bullied will often continue to find a reason for the way they are being treated. This is fruitless because there is no rational basis for the bullying. The victim then beats themselves up because they cannot understand the reason for it all. It ends up with the victim believing that they have failed and deserve the bad treatment they are getting.
